Farmers MarketsQuality market produce in South OxfordshireEating well in South Oxfordshire doesn't always mean you have to visit one of the area's excellent restaurants.
These are held monthly and offer everything from fish, meats, sausages and pies to a bewildering variety of cheeses, home made jams, fruits, vegetables and herbs and spices. In addition to the farmers markets there are many more regular markets throughout the District. Henley has a market in the town centre every Thursday, while Wallingford has held markets every Friday since gaining permission from Henry II in 1155. Thame Market has been held on Tuesdays since 1230, the original being on the Buttermarket and Cornmarket sites. The area of Middle Row that separates the two originally consisted of booths that were erected each week. The market is now held in Upper High Street car park and normally around 40 traders are in attendance. Thame also holds regular livestock markets, primarily of sheep and cattle. In March Henley's Market Place was transformed into a continental market, bringing some of the best produce from France and other parts of Europe direct to the heart of the town. Food Markets
