Breakfast

Start the day well in South Oxfordshire

The great British breakfast is as popular as ever, according to bed and breakfast providers in South Oxfordshire.

Traditional English BreakfastA survey carried out for South Oxfordshire District Council revealed that although healthy option choices were being added to breakfast menus, the old favourite of egg, sausage, bacon and beans was still top of the menu.

"The good old English breakfast still holds fast and foreigners are under the impression that all English people eat full English breakfasts every day and therefore they want to try one," says Jacquie Williams, mine hostess at Lenwade bed and breakfast in Henley.

Jill Ford at Robhill echoes the sentiment saying, "Overseas visitors like to try it because it is English" and husband and wife team John and Svetlana Danton-Rees point out "The traditional English breakfast is something few have at home and so they look forward to it when they are away."

Julie Huntington, an accommodation provider in Wallingford confirms: "The great British breakfast is alive and well here."

Many accommodation providers such as David Horton from Larchdown Farm at Checkendon do provide healthy alternatives. "To cater for the healthy guest we make fresh melon and mango fruit salad as well as our home-made yoghurt" he points out.

But David's conclusion is the same as other South Oxfordshire accommodation providers... "The majority of guests find breakfast the best part of their stay and over the last five years attitudes have hardly changed."

When he heard the results of the survey, councillor John Cotton, South Oxfordshire District Council's cabinet member for tourism commented: "There are many reasons for visiting the district, but it's reassuring to know that the quality of our traditional English breakfast is still very high on the list."

Some guests may worry about piling on the pounds with a hearty breakfast but South Oxfordshire offers a solution. Just check out the activities page on the web site and you will soon find ways to build an appetite for another hearty breakfast the next morning.
