Rowing on the river in South Oxfordshire

Approximately 47 miles of the River Thames flows through South Oxfordshire and what better way to do a bit of exploring than by boat. Three men in a Boat and the Wind in the Willows have made everyone aware of the fun to be had by taking a trip along the Thames.

Organised boat trips are available from Henley and Wallingford but for those who want something a bit more active and independent, there are rowing boats, canoes and motorboats for hire by the hour.

You can even opt to stay on a longboat for the weekend or have a party on board.

Water skiing and sailing are also easy to find in nearby lakes and reservoirs and if you want to test your chances of winning an Olympic medal, then why not try rowing down Henley's internationally renowned regatta course.

It's not just sailing and rowing on the River Thames that draws people to South Oxfordshire. There are also plenty of opportunities available for the keen angler. There are a number of lakes, rivers, pools and reservoirs in which to catch a fish.

Many a youngster caught his first tiddler from the Thames towpath but don't forget that fishing in the area is governed by licence regulations.
