Project TimescapeOn March 31st, a new education and visitor centre 'Project Timescape' will be opening at Hill Farm in Little Wittenham. It will tell the story of our relationship with the local landscape from the end of the last ice age through to 2080. The centre is part of a £3.5million redevelopment of Hill Farm, which has included the restoration of a number of barns to provide new facilities for visitors. Using timeline benches and a geological wall, visitors can learn all about how the landscape has been altered and moulded in the past and the different physical, cultural and economic uses it has had. Exhibits include Iron Age, Saxon and Tudor settlements. Children can also learn how our decisions in everyday living have an impact on the local landscape, become scientists in the climate lab and see key finds from recent archaeological digs on Wittenham Clumps. They can also find out more about what can be done in their own local landscape and based on actions in our everyday lives - plot the landscape of the future. Visitors arriving by bicycle or bus will be rewarded for their greener use of transport with a free cup of fair-trade tea or coffee.
