Music Festivals
The sound of music in South Oxfordshire
If music is the food of love, then you will love South Oxfordshire's
wealth of music festivals. From traditional folk music to rock and classical,
there is a sound to suit all tastes.
Every
year for the past 25 years, a floating stage has graced the River Thames
at Henley. Henley's Festival of Music and Arts is a bumper four days of
music, art, comedy, dance and entertainment all on the banks of the river.
For opera buffs Garsington Manor holds a month long open air opera festival
in its beautiful gardens, in the summer time. The combination of music,
gardens and the unusual repertoire has established it as a much-loved
event in the South Oxfordshire festival calendar.
Whilst ranging from the timeless delights of Tallis and Byrd to the power
and drama of Howells and Britten, Dorchester's English Music Festival
is a tribute to the golden renaissance of English music.
Wallingford's
BunkFest is now firmly established as a leading event for the folk and
roots music scene. Fabulous concerts, dance displays, ceilidhs, workshops,
a huge craft and trade fair, arts for young people, an enormous beer festival,
music on the river and a singing train, it is no wonder it draws in huge
crowds every year.
For those who want to appreciate music in a much more tranquil environment
then Grey's Court have regular music al fresco evenings. Dressed in black
tie, guests can bring chairs, picnic baskets and blankets and dine al
fresco while listening to classical ensembles.
